Time to get back into things. Mostly.
I'm back. Sort of.
Jul. 2nd, 2006 09:15 pmI've been back for most for 24 hours and I have to say that I have no idea what time zone I'm physiologically in.
My stomach: Japanese time zone; more, no rich foods for me and only small portions, please.
My muscles: California time zone. At least some part of me has adjusted.
My mind: whatever time zone allows me to sleep.
My heart: in Japan. Always. :P
I loved it. It was amazing and I had a great time in both Taiwan and Japan. I have gobs of pictures to share and will put something together soon.
Hehe. I'm listening to Utada Hikaru's latest alblum, "Ultra Blue", right now. She sings random english lyrics often enough that Jeff's looked up from his grant-writing and joked, "I think I'm getting so used to it that I'm starting to understand Japanese..."
The cat's playing with one of my new asian hair things. it's one of those that has two little plastic pieces and tons of elastic in between, and so one of the pieces is coming up and hitting her in the face! So she is kicking her own butt right now. Poor little confused kitty.

Jun. 23rd, 2006 05:18 amSo unfair that the
psychocommagrlz are getting together and partying it up in Seattle, and that
jennlynnfs and
bijoux are partying it down in Long Beach, and I can't be there to enjoy and bask in the happiness.
But really! I can't feel all that bad: I'm in TAIWAN.
Taking a short breather today: greetings from Taiwan!!! ASIAN BABIES ARE SO CUTE. OMG.
Lots of impressions. Lots of storytelling; my father's family is following tradition for the engagement and wedding, and I'm learning lots of very interesting customs. I'll have to go into detail later. Maybe.
We've done a lot of cool things so far, things that we haven't done here before. There are tons of beautiful pictures, not one of them taken by me. But I will shamelessly claim credit when I show them. :p
It's very hot here. But it's a happy time to be with family.
Zai jian!!!

Joshua Tree & other =)
May. 8th, 2006 02:17 pm( Joshua Tree was fun. )
( Stuff I've read lately that makes me happy )
Looking forward to Thursday: we got tickets to the Astros v. Dodgers, and get this: it's a day game on a weekday! This may be common for other ballparks, but it is extremely rare here in LA. I'm revved! Baseball this season thus far has given me much joy. I wonder why I don't post on it more often. *shrugs*

Alive and well.
Jan. 3rd, 2006 10:08 amI hope everybody's had a very excellent holiday! :)
WARNING: LONG ENTRY!! Really, only appropriate for the extremely curious or the extremely bored.
( Holidays )
In summary, a very fun and relaxing break and I'm glad I had it, because life is now really really annoying.
( What I've come back to...WAH )
All in all, life's good, but busy. No time yet to catch up on the flist, but I hope you all had a great holiday, and happy new year, everybody!!

Back in lab
Nov. 28th, 2005 01:04 pmWish I could go back to Michigan and hide a bit longer.
The minute I landed in LAX, the stress pounded me into the ground, it was so heavy and sudden. And because of the stress, I have found it fun to punt by loitering on line and catching up on my friends and e-mails. Still in denial of stuff I have to do, and will most likely be in this happy state until tomorrow when I start up quenching experiments again.
Thanksgiving: Michigan was fun; I managed to get home before the snow hit, so I was able to enjoy the lovely snow from inside my house with my family. Extended family arrived on Thursday, which was less fun, because LOUD!Uncle Emery and ANNOYING!Cousin Philip were of the group. Thanksgiving dinner was at the home of a family friend. Asian!Thanksgiving dinner consists of Turkey, mashed potatoes, ham, and ten bijillion Asian dishes, spanning sushi to fried noodles to smelly chicken. It is at the same time paradise and completely gross. :p
Got back on Saturday and spent a pretty fun remainder of my weekend with J and his lab group; Kings and Blackhawk hockey on Saturday, and another Thanksgiving dinner yesterday night.
My tummy has grown to two times its size and is not quite comfortable with this sudden change.
NaNo news: Well, I'm currently at 41,824 words. I was keeping on track through my visit to Michigan, but was lax in writing this past weekend. As a result, I'll have some catching up to do later today. However, as always, interactions with my family and extended family has inspired me for a set of scenes. Writing has been a lot smoother since I changed Jamie Morland to a girl and sent her off to Sierra Leone. :p
Have had a lot of revelations re: my Emma story as well. One of the reasons why I was eager to take on NaNo was to get some necessary distance from Emma and Greg. It's worked, because I'm getting revved about jumping back on the project...

The happy group.
Sep. 15th, 2005 11:48 amWooot! Got flickr to work! As promised, here are some hike pics.
Civilization!
Sep. 14th, 2005 10:23 amBack from the camping trip, and my muscles are S.O.R.E. I could barely roll out of (soft!) bed this morning and my legs cramp up every few seconds.
( I love it. )
I have pictures. Will put them up once I hook up the camera to my computer. In the meantime, I shall deal with blisters and dry skin.

DC Summary
Sep. 6th, 2005 03:58 pmMy trip was entirely too short; I had a really really fantastic time with
the_marchioness, and met up with a variety of high school friends, college friends, and relatives. SOOO busy, but so much fun! And that's not even including the chemistry! Anyhow, I'm back in (non-humid) Los Angeles, and sadly, I didn't bring a camera, so all I'm left with is a bunch of
the_marchioness's romance novels and memories. And a "DC American Chemical Society" magnet. And really pretty shoes.
On another note: Serenity in less than a month! < fangirl > SQUEEEE! < /fangirl >
