Monday Monday

It's gray outside, which is sad after the "Welcome to summer!" weather we'd been getting last week. At first, I was happy for the respite, but I'm ready for sunshine again. Fickle, fickle Crystal!

The receptions and party went swimmingly. Everybody was happy, the weather was great, and I'm just glad that things went so well. I can't express how wonderful I feel towards it; this is why I don't tend to describe things I do unless I'm elated or aggravated. But I get warm fuzzy feelings thinking about how well it went and how much I enjoyed it. I'm glad I don't have to worry about parties and the like for at least another few months.

I spent Saturday reading Jennifer Crusie's Bet Me, at the_marchioness's recommendation. And then I read Welcome to Temptation because I liked Jennifer Crusie. Nice and lazy Saturday to recover.

I spent Sunday with jennlynnfs and bijoux. Partly because we wanted to gorge on firefly, and partly because we wanted to celebrate bijoux's graduation. And partly because we wanted to knit. I again feel stupid saying "it was lots of fun" but it was just great. (Sad, I like to write, but I can't seem to come up with creative ways of saying that I enjoyed myself.) I loved being there. I always enjoy my time with them. Lots of laughs. Lots of knitting. Lots of Mal. And way too much cake. But that's never a completely bad thing.

So now I'm back to Monday and life's back to normal. No parties, no receptions and no weekends. I look at my project, which isn't quite working, but maybe...

Is it just me, or is that sky outside a bright gray now?

Firefly is AWESOME. If you can get your hands on the DVDs, do it! Not only is the storyline gripping, but the dialogue is written really well and the actors are spot on. There's also a subtle humor that picks up with each episode.

The genre is sci-fi, but the setting is a Western outback kind of feeling. It's kind of like the Star Trek movie First Contact when the away team goes back in time to Earth to help whatshisname with making sure warp drive gets discovered by the Vulcans. The setting is rural, pioneerish, but with some random tech advances.

OK. I totally just revealed how nerdy I am.

But, it's really fun to watch.

Going to be strangely anal and correct you: Serenity is the name of the ship, Firefly is its class.

But your summary is spot on, Jenn.

The other cool thing I love about Firefly is the mix of Eastern and Western culture...they characters swear in terribly accented Chinese and some wear some Chinese-inspired clothing. It's just a really neat vision for the future.

OMG. I'm such a dumb ass especially since I heard that theme song nearly 50 times this weekend. Gees.

You know what though, if you and V hadn't explained the background info, the Chinese swearing would've been totally random. It's cool, but if I didn't know the story, I'd wonder why they were talking in Chinese.
