Baseball. Well, J and I went to our last Dodger game of the year with our pal Steve on Friday night. Nicely enough, our boys managed to scrape out another win against the Pittsburgh Pirates. Though there are still a handful of home games left, I do believe that this Friday's game was a nice note to end the season on. So with that, I look back on my Dodger record and find that of the 9 Dodger games I've attended this year, my boys have gone 7-2. Methinks I should go to more Dodger games next year. For the sake of the team.

Thankfully, the baseball season isn't over and I can't wait to see what happens in October. J is really excited for his Cardinals, and I can't help but feel swept along in the enthusiasm.

Firefly/Serenity. [livejournal.com profile] bijoux and I went to Universal Studios Hollywood yesterday for the Serenity movie fan fast, which was fun. I'd summarize, but [livejournal.com profile] bijoux does a better job of that in the link above. Some personal notes: Adam Baldwin is really fun and charming, and Summer is really friendly and smiles a lot. Once we finished with the fan fest, [livejournal.com profile] bijoux and I took off for [livejournal.com profile] jennlynnfs's place, where we did a mini-marathon of the Firefly series in preparation for the Sept 30 release date. As always, being around [livejournal.com profile] bijoux & [livejournal.com profile] jennlynnfs (and M, [livejournal.com profile] jennlynnfs's awesome husband) was lots of fun and stayed entirely too late. Can't wait until Sept 30!!! Less than a week away! WOOOT!

Ligand Field Theory and uber-suckage. < rant > This year, my dear friend [livejournal.com profile] kilroi and I are taking Advanced Ligand Field Theory, which I have recently come to also call "OMG. Kill Me Now." The class consists of four problem sets, 33 pages in total, of lots and lots of vigorous derviations and problems. There is no lecture. This is an extremely cool course. My research advisor, HG, was involved in the development of this field and hence is one of the experts. He wrote the problem set and near the end of the problem sets, he will actually sit down and talk about the consequences for the math we so drag so slowly through.

I've started on the problem set and have tried to get through the dry dense readings. I used to think that I was proficient in math, but this makes me feel like a three year old, trying to relearn how to count numbers. *cries pathetically* Time to resubject myself to the torture...< /rant >
