I do wonder...

happychemist...if it's possible to be in this city and not be stressed out over something.
I had something rife with death, destruction and a (healthy, I assure you!) dose of melodrama in mind, but well, ha. Nothing like preparing to post to LJ to make you realize that it really is kind of silly. I mean, that makes sense, as I am quite silly myself. And well, if I feel this way, then I guess that means that I'll be fine.
So I'll be fine. I'll keep working, and I'm going to write a kick@$$ prop...on whatever it is I finally settle on.
Even given my mind-wringing sessions in the libraries, I've had a nice time here. It's a bit cold outside, so I've alternated between being allergic to the cold and in fact, loving it. (I tend to hate it most when I tread my feet on the cold floors of Dr. J's place.)

Thursday we stayed in; we didn't get started until around 9:30, but we didn't need too much time. Dr. J brought home the Jane Austen Book Club and beer, and I ordered pizza. The movie was absolutely fantastic and lovely, made me miss my book club (I had to miss the last meeting because I was in Ventura)! I think it does a fantastic job of paying appropriate homage to Jane Austen, as well as depicting the diverse responses people have to her writing. The characters were quite likable, I really enjoyed their discussions. Dr. J really enjoyed the movie too; so the evening was really well-spent!
Yesterday, we went to Cuchi Cuchi for a tapas-style dinner. Cuchi Cuchi was beautiful; the atmosphere was a balance of festive and intimate. The menu was quite extensive, and found its inspiration from a variety of sources. We had quite a difficult time deciding what to have; a bottle of wine, or a collection of their vintage cocktails? What collection of dishes did we want to have? We decided on the Dona Paula Malbec '05, and the Scallop Ceviche, Insalata del Liguria, Mexican Deep-Fried Tomato, and Duck a l'Orange Crepes. Every bite was an infusion of so many beautiful flavors. The overall effect was quite stunning. After, we headed over to Symphony Hall for Sibelius and Shostakovich. The concert was lovely, though quite intense; I'm not sure Shosti really did need an opener. Dr. J was quite crushed by the Shostikovich. I adored it. Elder was a very talented conductor, who clearly adored Shostakovich; his mastery over the score was very evident. Afterwards, we headed over to Trident Booksellers to have creme brulee and wind down from our keyed up concert performance.
All in all, a truly lovely evening. It completely revitalized me for today's paper-reading.
See? It doesn't matter if I really don't think glutaredoxins are a plausible source of iron for the RNR beta subunit! :)
