Blahness tempered by success and cuteness

I've been unmotivated, lately. The dishes pile up in the sink, the clothes remain in the dirty laundry bin, books remain unread, and the data remains unfitted. Haven't written for a week. And I haven't worked out for 10 days. Cyclic, to be sure. Am forcing myself out of the haze now. Can't punt too long, no matter how much I want to.

Last week I gave a really awesome group meeting (to be modest :P) after which my adviser came up to me and told me that
  • It was the best group meeting he'd seen in a while; he'd no idea that I'd gotten so good at data analysis.
  • I was in terrific shape to graduate on time: he could see my thesis right in front of him, in that presentation.
  • The work I was doing merited a full paper in Journal of the American Chemical Society. A first author paper for me, of course. :)

So, you can see that there's not much reason to feel so icky. My adviser told me everything I needed to hear to stay on track. So I SHOULD GET THERE. :P

So I guess I'm stating it here and now: I've been lame, and I want to un-lame myself.

Statement of Intent: By the end of this week, I will:
  • decide on first prop idea by end of August. (Get it written by the end of September.)
  • finish data analysis, utilizing the new code I was given.
  • start purification on the Ru124/YNO2122 system

J's been calling every other day from Boston. I think he understands my longing to be involved in his life, as he calls and asks for suggestions for movie theaters, etc, and tells me where he's been exploring. One day he was lost on campus and asked for directions. It was the first time since leaving more than 4 years ago that I really missed MIT.

I met [livejournal.com profile] semioticwarrior's kidlets on Saturday. I could not take my eyes off of them; they're so beautiful and happy. I got my very new and adorable 6" by 6" RFID-blocking flat bag, and it is lovely.

Hobbies revived: slowly teaching myself guitar, and knitting (learned how to knit with a cable needle, AND I knitted myself some wrist warmers!

You can do it, girlfriend! Good for you for saying it out loud; that's the first step!

yay for cable knitting! Not so hard, is it?

Yay, I'm glad things are going so well for you right now :)

And isn't knitting cables the best? It's like, with minimal additional effort, you can create something that looks VERY impressive and difficult to non-knitters.

Way to go on the awesome group meeting! And *squee* for statements of intent. You can do it!!! *\o/*

Hey what does a first author paper mean? Your name gets first billing?

OMG. That's AWESOME. You're going to be in a journal! Woot! I'm glad you're on track to graduate despite the fact that means you'll be leaving me! *clings*

I'm so glad you J includes you in his Boston musings. That's really sweet of him. I've been calling my sister everyday (OK. It's only been 3 days.) And it does give a sense of comfort to know what the other person is up to.

And cute bag! (I hope your Vera Bradley isn't left to the wayside though.) :)

There has been so much going on lately! I know you say you've been feeling blah lately, but you've clearly been productive too. It shows in your successful group meeting last week, and I'm absolutely thrilled about that and the positive energy it brings for your next year. I don't know about you, but I can feel the tunnel towards the future opening up before you. I'm so excited for you!

So I'll be sure to have my whip ready to check in on Friday and make sure you've un-lamed yourself. ;)

Random Side Notes:

1) I know this is really bad, but I was thrilled to see you haven't been going to Curves lately. Mostly because this assuages my own guilt and lameness for not going regularly either lately. Ha!

2) Your icon! *squees @ cuteness/awesomeness* I had to reciprocate with my own Bones icon.
