It's ~10:00 here in Denver, CO, where I'm spending the night. I had a one hour delay outside of Denver (Did LA traffic follow me?!) but I've gotten in and I'm just settling in right now. :D

I had an absolutely FANTASTIC time in UT with the happy, generous, energetic [livejournal.com profile] alysonls and was quite depressed when I had to leave them at all earlier today, esp when I got cocooned in the most loveliest of all group hugs I've ever had in my life. I have lots (but still not enough) pictures of the fun we've had, and will post them soon...

The drive has been, for the most part, quite enjoyable. On the road, I'm enjoying my solitude and LOVING the diverse landscape! the mountains! The canyons! The trees! The desert! Everything is to be admired and enjoyed.

On one last note, CO state police cars?! Sneaky. In CA, NV, and UT, they were easy to spot from the lights on the top of the vehicle, but that is not true of these police cars; the lights are on the inside, and the vehicle does not stand out to me at all. I saw one at work for the most of my trip through today; he'd get on ahead of me, trap someone, and then he'd come and overtake me again (I LOOOOVE not being in a hurry anywhere...)

Anyhow, time to turn in; a day in Denver tomorrow. I wonder what I'll do...

Need to catch up on entries.

Need to catch up on everything.

But I had a REALLY BEYOND AWESOME TIME this past weekend, with [livejournal.com profile] the_marchioness, [livejournal.com profile] the_marchioness's friend Moo, and [livejournal.com profile] jennlynnfs!!!!!! Will give details, but let's just say that I think [livejournal.com profile] the_marchioness and I saw more of LA than some Los Angelinos see in their lifetime.

After reluctantly saying goodbye to A, I turned to the apartment.

I've finished moving and started the next chapter of my life: in which I am a Betty Neels heroine. Took pictures teeny tiny apartment. Will definitely share those, and pics from the LA Tour...

But for now?

27 on the 27th!

Now that just makes me feel all sorts of shiny and special. Knowing that the defense, graduation, and the move are ahead make me very aware that this year is clearly a year for interesting adventures.

I wouldn't call it a waste of time, but I am a bit miffed that I am fighting spring fever/restlessness this week. I spend an embarrassing number of hours making frustratingly slow progress on my work, and trying to psyche myself up. And that's just silly, because, well, it's a thesis. How much more motivation could I find?!?!

I combat the restlessness with more physical activity: Curves and yoga. I am relishing in the perpetual sore muscle reminder that I'm doing my best to dispel the energy.

It's not bad energy, you know? It's just unfocused.

This year's birthday theme appears to be meals with friends, and I can't tell you how happy that makes me. Yesterday, officemate B and I went out to lunch. Today, lunch with JRo and [livejournal.com profile] kilroi, dinner with S. Tomorrow, [livejournal.com profile] jennlynnfs and her family are coming up for lunch. Heh. Maybe being surrounded by lovely friends makes the time in front of the computer, working on my thesis seem that much more boring...

Last post of the year. Let's make it sound fun and exciting! Oh wait, it is :)

I had an absolutely amazing time in Las Vegas and San Diego with Dr. J. So fantastic that I, of course, felt completely downtrodden and depressed after I dropped him off at the airport on Saturday morning.

I was ready to mourn the loss of my dear doctor with plenty of DVDs and knitting, all the way through the weekend.

But of course, my friends always are so wonderful :)

[livejournal.com profile] bijoux called a few hours after I'd dropped Dr. J off. Taking shameless advantage of my hazy mental state, within twenty seconds she'd engaged me for Sunday with her and [livejournal.com profile] jennlynnfs down in Long Beach. Which I am very glad for, because the ladies were oh so awesome. We had a wonderful time chatting, watching the battle scenes from Lord of the Rings, and playing our altered version of Whoonu.

While hanging out, I got a phone call from [livejournal.com profile] kilroi and made plans to walk up the street from my apartment to watch the Rose Parade on New Years Day. And when I paused to check my e-mail, I got fantastic news from my friend [livejournal.com profile] 987s, who decided at the last minute that he wanted to drive down from Mountain View to hang out this New Years Eve.

Official proof that my friends are oh so awesome.

Other things are going on. I had some fantastic wine in SD and watched some fun and amazing movies. My cat's noticed I need a bit more lovin', so she's been very generous with her purrage and snuggling. Today was the first day in at least two weeks that I've gone out without a sweatshirt or a coat on. (Don't slap me, my cold-weathered friends!!) And...my apartment is clean! :)

I still miss Dr. J like crazy, but with all this lovin' I'm getting, well, it'd be an insult to stay mopey.

My well-traveled protein! )

Holiday cheer! )

So, as it's likely I won't be on line until after I get back from Las Vegas/San Diego....

Attended high school friend S's wedding this morning/tonight.

It was an Indian wedding, so I need a shower, my feet are killing me and my quads are screaming from the workout I've had on the dancefloor...

...but DAMN Indian weddings are so much fun.

Two very important friends:

First, [livejournal.com profile] the_marchioness. I'm glad we talked this weekend, and I'm glad that you had a good time in Boston. *hugs* I really don't know what these past few years would have been like without you. Happy birthday. :)

Secondly, [livejournal.com profile] jennlynnfs. Thank you for letting me be a part of your family; your generosity is unrivaled! You've had a very eventful year; best wishes on yet another love-filled, family-filled one!

Happy birthday!!!

I've been unmotivated, lately. The dishes pile up in the sink, the clothes remain in the dirty laundry bin, books remain unread, and the data remains unfitted. Haven't written for a week. And I haven't worked out for 10 days. Cyclic, to be sure. Am forcing myself out of the haze now. Can't punt too long, no matter how much I want to.

Awesome news, and a resolution )

Laser measurements were (to put it politely) quite difficult. But they're also over and have been over since Friday at 2 am, so who wants to dwell over that?

Weekend/outlet shopping was fun. Carrie put together a good performance on her marathon, esp considering she didn't run in the last 4 weeks, was sick, and traveled to Africa, London, Michigan, and California all in the week leading up to the event :)

We were going to stay the weekend with "her friend Dave", but lo and behold, we arrived in SD and I discovered "her friend Dave" is "my friend that I've lost track of Dave" so it was simply awesome to catch up with him. We had ample opportunity! :)

We drove back up this morning. Carrie is slugging out the day in my apartment and recovering. And I'm...working up laser data :P

Stuffs )

Time is flying. This is good. I hope it flies until I'm walking down the aisle and getting my own hood.

Ha! I meant to write something on Monday about my weekend and now it's Friday, and there's another weekend ahead of me (this one less fun...bah)

Well, first and foremost, this past weekend was awesome. )

Two purchases )

Computer. Bah. )

All in all, things are going well. Fell off the exercise pattern for two weeks and only did two times each week, but I'm back on it. Need to get back into cooking. But the lab work's going well and I'm chugging along, and so is the writing. I'm on Chapter Nine now. I'm happy and...I'm going to the Dodgers tonight...first baseball game for me this season. Derek Lowe against David Wells. WOOOOOOOOT!

The day starts out lovely! I turned in my tax return for 2006 and my first quarter payment for 2007 (this shouldn't make me feel all that happy, but relieved is good!) and when I went to check my mailbox, a package!!

My friends are made of 100% Awesome )

Thank you, [livejournal.com profile] 987s and [livejournal.com profile] the_marchioness!!!

More joy!

How is it possible?! No idea.

It's a good thing I've been saving up, because I took the plunge and purchased plane tickets to my college friend L's wedding in June.

The wedding is in Williamsburg, VA...which means...A STOP TO SEE [livejournal.com profile] the_marchioness!

Feeling extremely guilty over the fact that I'll be in Virginia, then back to CA for a week, and then off to Europe.

*shakes head*

Guess I'll have to work harder to deserve it!

I have one of those grins.

Last night, K (she's a Japanese post doc in my lab) and I got together for dinner and we settled in to watch Howl's Moving Castle. I know, I'm behind the times. Considering how much I enjoyed Spirited Away and Kiki's Delivery Service, you'd think that I'd have rushed out and seen it at first opportunity.

But you know what? I'm glad I watched it for the first time last night. K hadn't watched it either, because she'd been in the States doing some research when it'd been released back in Japan. So we both got to experience it for the first time together!

And wow! I loved it! It's enough to make you smile for no reason for days following. It's a great pickmeup!

Plus, it's awesome to watch it with K. K's sweet quiet smile makes you want to spend more time with her. Her English isn't as good, so it's good that we can watch Miyazaki in Japanese with English subtitles.
